The Device Dilemma

I’m trying. I really am. But  I’m having great difficulty learning to sit in a room with my family while they’re all on ‘a device’ of one sort or another. I feel left out & end up chatting to myself (which I think may end up being problematic in itself.)  I guess I’m supposed to be satisfied just being in their presence...but I’m not!!   I don’t want to check my phone, or FB, Twitter, Instagram or SnapChat (if I even did any of the last 3) while my children & grandchildren are in the same room. I want to INTERACT WITH THEM. But of course, that kind of dinosaur thinking just elicits rolled eyes.    It's easier when it's your place... you can still make the rules! But I haven't been totally successful with banning them... except for dinner.  When my granddaughter visits, she relies on the fact that she can hide away in her 'cave' at Mimi's.  But here I'm talking about when you visit THEM.  Oh & it's not that I haven't picked up ...

Scared of getting out there on your own?

Little Old Lady Travel…no GPS (which I barely trust) used; instead - written notes on torn pieces of paper. Today I pushed myself into a rental car determined to find my way around Grass Valley & Nevada City, California. For those of you who don’t live there, it’s a wonderfully hilly, twisting, curving type of place & you can just go around & around till you believe you’re in Alice in Wonderland if you don’t pay attention.  My Air BnB host, Mark, wrote out the kind of directions I love: R on Lawrence, L on Gary, R on Carrie, L on Dog Bar… then straight for 6 miles.  Armed with scraps of paper & my little prayer of protection, off I go.  And I made it to my first stop… Grass Valley. Before I even started exploring I saw a sign for a Farmer’s Market & followed what I hoped were people heading there. They were! If I’d brought my camera I would have taken pictures.  The produce must have come from magic gardens as it was lush & tasty... C...
